After university graduation specialists start looking for a job, that means that they start the period of school-to-work transition, so they become unemployed. Young unemployment is one of the most serious topics in the world now, so we need to understand what factors impact on the success of this transition. As a result of this master thesis I answer the questions: are success factors of graduates in the school-to-work transition (time of transition period, horizontal match and vertical match) different for economists & managers and technicians; and does the deficit of technicians exist in Russia, does not it? The research is based on the sample survey of the employment of graduates 2010-2015, who received secondary vocational and higher education, which was conducted by the Federal State Statistics Service in 2016. The results of this study found out that graduates with technical field of education are less successful in school-to-work transition. They are looking for a job longer, have less horizontal and vertical matches. The conclusion is that the deficit of technicians does not exist. Also, it is displayed the critical group which is needed in some support in this transition, this is girls with technical field of study. According to these results, I provide some practical recommendations for demand increase for technical graduates by taking into consideration the characteristics of the field of education which allows choosing the matching and satisfying job. These recommendations could be taken as the best practices. Its develop the relationship between universities and employers by government and municipal stimulating measures, integrating of universities and employers’ practices.
