The study examines regional features of the temple architecture of Toropets and Ostashkov at the end of the 17th and 18th centuries. The terms "Toropetskoe" and "Ostashkovsky" baroque became stable, however, the similarities and differences between the two schools, their genesis and stylistic development in the context of the Moscow architecture were not analyzed in detail before. Photo-fixing of monuments and drawing up of passports was last carried out in the 1970s-1980s. The work contains photographs of the author with a modern state of monuments, a historiography of studying the architecture of the Upper Volga region and the most complete list of monuments with specified dates. The subject of the study are regional features of the architecture of Toropts and Ostashkov at the end of the 17th and 18th centuries. The object of the research is the monuments of the temple architecture of Toropets, Ostashkov and the surroundings, built in the period from 1660s to 1810s. The goal of the work is to reveal the decorative and compositional features of the architecture of Toropets and Ostashkov of the period under consideration and to determine their genesis using stylistic and contextual analysis methods. As a result of the research, we have drawn conclusions that the existing division of the "Toropets" and "Ostashkov" baroque into separate schools is not correct. It was Toropets that was the center of the formation of new architectural forms - and only then they spread in neighboring regions. Under the influence of the Toropetsky architectural school were Toropetsky, Ostashkovsky, Selizharovsky and Kuvshinovsky districts of the Tver region. The genesis of the "Toropets" baroque is seen in the special refraction of the forms of the Rastrelli baroque. The planar interpretation of decorative decoration when copying the general outlines probably speaks in favor of the version about their reproduction in stone from "paper" samples - graphic works by Rastrelli.
