Influence of External Factors on Firms' Operational Effectiveness

Operational efficiency of companies is determined by both internal and external factors, but the share of second ones in total efficiency value is not investigated enough in academic literature. This paper examine the degree in which external factors determine operational efficiency. For that purpose, data on industrial and mining european companies and sfa-method of efficiency estimation are used. As the result, the majority of efficiency is determined by external factors which companies are not able to control, and the difference in efficiency between companies is mostly determined by differences in county-level and industry-level factors.
