Parallel Algorithm of Classical Molecular Dynamics for the Epiphany Many-Core Processor Architecture

One of the most important problems for the creation of exaflops supercomputer is the reduction in the energy consumption of hardware. In this paper, the many-core processor architecture Epiphany is considered as a promising energy-efficient technology. The review of programming methods for new hardware is conducted, the development and debugging of the algorithm of classical molecular dynamics for this processor is described. The fragments of actually used code are published. Using the prototype platform Parallella with the Epiphany chip, the performance and the energy efficiency of the hardware and software systems are examined. The results are compared with other relevant CPU and accelerators.
