There is a contradiction between the tendency of marriage to be a more cost-effective union and the fact that the institution of the marriage contract in Russia is still not formed and widespread, despite its long history. Therefore, our main task was to identify the basic social perseptions of marriage contracts, to understand what it is the meaning of people who have had experienced the agreement of marriage contract. The methodology of the empirical study involved interviews with spouses who had experience in drawing up a marriage contract. We have identified the meanings of the concept of marriage contract. They concerned both the emotional sphere and the practical application of the document. A chain associative experiment was chosen as an additional method. The method is effective for representation and allocation of clusters, which, according to the results of the study, turned out to be five. Note that clusters are formed by associations and informants at the same time, because each informant gave associations, which eventually fell into one cluster. The results show the variability of the invested meanings, as well as refute the assumption that the marriage contract is perceived negatively and carries the meaning of "rapid separation".
