Strategies of Russian Firms

In modern market conditions competitive strategies play an important role for the development of enterprises. With the right strategy the company can achieve an incredible success in its industry. This paper studies different processes affecting the competitiveness of the enterprise, including external and internal factors of modernization: a competitive environment, business climate, innovative behavior. In this work the main competitive strategies are presented and the actual examples of each type of strategy are shown. The empirical study is based on the results of two rounds of the competitiveness survey of manufacturing enterprises, conducted in 2005 and 2009 by the Institute for Industrial and Market Studies of the Higher School of Economics. The paper gives the analysis of the companies, which participated in the in Round 1 survey, then it shows how the characteristics of the company influence the choice of the company's strategy and finally it compares the achievements of the companies in 2009.
