Social Media as a Factor of Political Participation

In this study, we will analyze social media Vkontakte in order to reveal its impact on the degree of political participation of Russian citizens. Two case studies were chosen for the analysis - the Voronezh and Sverdlovsk regions, as well as the Vkontakte’s groups dedicated to the regional activities of the political parties the PVO, the KPRF, the LDPR, the Rodnaya Partiya. As a result of the analysis, it was concluded that social media have an impact on the political participation of subscribers in Russia. However, it also largely depends on local regional political and regional subcultures, as well as on the overall political reality of the state
