Key Directions of Migration of Certain Age Groups of The Population of Russia

The work is devoted to investigation of directions of intra-Russian migration of certain age groups of the population of Russia, selectivity of migration’s directions depending on age. Data source – Russian Census 2010, microdata base of the Russian Census 2010. These data allowed almost for the first time to make effort of analysis flows of interregional migration which are represented in the form of age profiles. It expanded knowledges of complex picture of interregional migration in Russia. The study was focused on age groups of mobile population (migrants), that related to important transitions of stages life course: start a family and birth of children, formation of career (0-4 years and 5-39 years), admission of universities (15-19 years) and retirement (50 years and more). This splitting allowed to discover key features of choice of certain region (the territory of arrival) by individuals of different ages. Directions of migration have been analyzed by separate federal districts of the Russian Federation and macro-territories of Russia also have been selected: the European South, the North, the South of Western Siberia and Far East. It was shown that preferences in selection of certain region differ when changing the place of residence depend on the age of the individual. Analysis of migration of individuals of certain ages also was conducted to describe some specifics of the suburbanization in the largest metropolitan area of Russia – Moscow and Saint-Petersburg areas.
