Social entrepreneurship is a relatively new concept. There is a large number of interpretations of this phenomenon in scientific literature, however, the fixed definition is not yet formulated. Despite the fact that in Russia there is already a considerable number of social enterprises in comparison with Western countries, this area is still in the initial stage of development. This is caused by certain barriers that delay the development of social enterprises. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to assess the prospects for the development of social enterprises in the Central Federal District of the Russian Federation and to highlight the potential opportunities to remove the existing barriers.
