This paper focuses on the problems of higher education of the United States of America, according to the opinions of the most influential American conservatives. American universities are recognized throughout the world as the most successful. Many countries are trying to copy the American education system to improve the level of education within the country. But is the American education system perfect? To find this out, we used the eternal argument between conservatives and liberals. We conducted a study of the magazines and web articles, that consider themselves to be right-winged conservative publications. For more objectiveness we also used a journals and opinions of liberals who argues with the conservatives. Findings of the research allow us to indicate several main problems that makes modern higher education less effective than it could be. These problems are relied to several trends. First trend is higher education becomes more and more “popular” – it no longer provides society with highly intelligent intellectuals. Next trend is in the significant decrease of the role of critical thinking caused by the reducing of the amount of history and literature classes. Last trend is connected with the aim of modern higher education, which is to produce an enormous number of managers that ought to assure the economic need. On the whole, these results do not only show the disadvantages of the modern educational system, but also can display how modern conservatives feel about the rapidly changing world, and what are their views on the todays “elite” part of the society.
