Depression: Social Construction of Meanings among Youth

Depression is a major problem in society, but it is often underestimated by both the surrounding people and by the patients themselves. The purpose of this work was to explore the perception of the disease by young people diagnosed with depression. It could find out that before they knew that it was a depression, young people stigmatized their condition as their negative character trait, but after depression was diagnosed to the patients, young men and women refused the previously appropriated stigma.
