The Usage of Destination Resources for the Development of Exhibition and Convention Economic Activities

The main aim of this dissertation is to develop ways of usage of destination resources for the development of exhibition and convention economic activities. To achieve it the author stated the following objectives: 1. to look into the role of the congresses and exhibitions in the modern world and find its place in the development of a destination. 2. To define and describe congress and exhibition infrastructure of St. Petersburg. 3. Analyze the attractiveness of St. Petersburg as a congress and exhibition destination. 4. Analyze congress and exhibition market in St. Petersburg. 5. Develop activities for the Convention bureau of St. Petersburg that will result in the development of exhibition and convention economic activities. The dissertation consists of three chapters. The first one is dedicated to the theoretical base of congress and exhibition activities, related kind of tourism and its economic effect on the destination. In the second chapter the author conducts case-analysis of cluster approach in congress and exhibition tourism, conducts a research of congress and exhibition market and infrastructure of St. Petersburg. The third chapter is dedicated to the role of Convention bureau of St Petersburg. The author generates recommendations on how to alter Bureau's activities in order to develop the exhibition and convention economic activities and improve St. Petersburg's image as a world-class congress destination.
