The association between parent involvement into the educational process and children’s achievement at school has become a topic of growing interest to scholars. They have speculated that parental involvement influence on academic achievement of student, but in Russia this field of research remains in its infancy. The purpose of the current study was twofold: first, we sought to determine whether how parental involvement influence on academic achievement of student in Russia. Secondly, it is necessary to propose to the Ministry of Education and Science measures to conduct courses and different training programs for future teachers. The data of the Russian panel study “Trajectories in Education and Career” (TrEC) were presented in this work. Data collection involved the focus group and 4893 in-depth interviews with young people aged 14-18 years and their parents. Responses to focus group questions were analyzed using thematic qualitative analysis. Our results paint a mixed picture of the influence parental involvement on academic achievement. This factor was difficult to predict. Similarly, despite the wide influence of the theory, some of its implications had to be put to use by practitioners. However, I made some recommendations for Russian Ministry of Education and Science. Hopefully, future research will give me a better understanding of this complex problem. From our analysis it appears that it would be valuable to conduct further detailed studies examining the nature of influence the informal institutions of the education market on student academic achievement. Keywords: parental involvement, academic achievement
