The Analysis of Accessibility of Higher Education for High-Achievers with Different Social Backgrounds
Public Administration
(Bachelor’s programme)
2018
The work is devoted to the analysis of accessibility of quality higher education in Russia for excellent students with different social and economic backgrounds.

Based on the data of the project "Monitoring the Economics of Education" for the year 2017, hypotheses were tested that in selective higher schools students from families with a higher material position predominantly study; Applicants choose more selective higher education institutions if their parents have higher education; getting into selective universities is associated with the quality of school education: graduates of schools with special status, as well as graduates of profile classes have a better chance of admission. With the help of regression analysis, the factors influencing the personal results of the USE were assessed. Then the analysis of the factors influencing the choice of the university for the entrants was made, which passed the exam to the "excellent" score (they scored at least 75 points in the Russian language, mathematics and average scores). The analysis of frequency distributions showed that students of highly selective higher educational establishments more often than others resorted to various types of additional preparation for the USE and invested in the preparation of more funds than students receiving secondary and low-level education in universities.

The regression evaluation of the model revealed the influence of the location of the school, as well as the school's special status.
