The present paper presents a study of the contemporary translations of N.M. Karamzin's "Historical Eulogy to Catherine II" into German and French. The Russian edition of the "Eulogy" is closely tied to the political situation in Russia after the accession of Alexander I and under the prestence of a panegyrical text constitutes Karamzin's project of the future of Russia. The main aim of this paper is to determine how the meaning of Karamzin's utterance changes, paying special attention to the translation of key historical and political concepts ("autocracy", "monarchy", "people", etc.), taking into consideration the change in their meanings during the turning period of the European history.
