Professional Self-Determination of Bachelor Graduates in Sociology

This paper examines the problem of professional self-determination of students who are studying on the sociological department at the University Higher School of Economics in Saint-Petersburg. What are the main features that determine graduates career strategies? Considering that sociology in Russia nowadays is seen as a not very prestigious sphere to be in, there is a need in determining what are the motives and goals that students pursues. The process of professional self-determination can be viewed through related concepts like self-actualization, professional identity, and professional socialization. A qualitative analysis was made; based on the interviews there were identified 5 key strategies of professional development of students. Key words: professional self-determination, students, career strategies, graduates, professionalization.
