Post-sports Career: Identity Change in Professional Athletes

In this paper we consider the process of identity change in professional athletes, their post-sports career. The work will be affected by various articles, studies devoted to this subject in the past. Also in the framework of this work will be formulated the purpose, objectives and assumptions. The purpose of this study is to identify ways to change the identity of professional athletes after leaving the big sport, the analysis of the emotional process when changing professional activities. The subject of the study is the post-sports career and change of identity of professional athletes. The object of the study are representatives of professional sports, who have already completed their professional sports activities for various reasons and currently have a different type of activity. Analysis of the data collected made it possible to identify the types of emotions associated with the adaptation period in professional athletes during the exit from the sport. Also, the types of activities and the reasons for which athletes after the end of their professional career choose them, as well as differences in identity change and manifestations of feelings among representatives with different socio-demographic characteristics were highlighted.
