The Phenomenon of Biohacking in the Psychoanalytic Paradigm

Student: Aleksandr Utkin

Faculty: Faculty of Social Sciences

Educational Programme: Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Business Consulting (Master)

Year of Graduation: 2018

The world has confidently entered the technological era and this definitely affects psyche, habits, appearance and other attributes of a person. In conjunction with the growing availability of technological solutions, an increasing number of enthusiasts start to take science into their own hands and share their experience with like-minded people and the world. Undoubtedly, the influence of technology has already transformed the picture of the world and continues to influence it at all levels, including the mental one. It is important to note that ideas of eternal life, superpower, efficiency and unlimited development have never been so popular and cultivated in the world. Therefore, the special interest is linked to the way in which this process of searching for solutions to the ancient conflict of life and death and how it involves religion, philosophy and psychology. All this merged into a new direction named biohacking, which combined important components on the way to achieve its goal - improving the quality of life, own effectiveness, improving health and overcoming the death threshold. The application of the psychoanalytic paradigm seems very logical in the context of current trends and explanations for such new ways of sublimation as biohacking.
