Analysis of Trends in Management Consulting in Developed Countries until 2020

The management consulting industry is interesting, complicated, and evolving. The problem of this study is caused by the necessity of the industry to respond by pushing itself to become more international, and to embrace all that globalization encompasses. The aim of this paper is to analyze trends in management consulting industry in developed countries, particularly in Canada as a significant and indicative developed country. The object of this study are the industry reports of developed countries. The subject of the study are the trends in management consultancy in a short run. The theoretical background of consulting is considered including definitions, history, consulting processes, consulting as a profession. Global trends are described and the current status of consulting is defined in chapter 2. Canadian consulting industry is deeply analyzed by applying market intelligence analysis, secondary research, and interviewing a representative of the profession. The main findings are: globalization presents both opportunities and challenges for firms; technology and information are key drivers of industry change; management consultants’ tools are evolving; clients’ demands are becoming more specific. Overall, management consulting remains vibrant, adaptable, and vital to the developed countries’ marketplaces. Insightful leaders will view the industry disruption as a challenge they can successfully address, and will position their firms for the necessary changes and advances.
