This master’s degree thesis “Coping strategies used by drug or alcohol addicts and specific interaction patterns within their parental families” opens with the analysis of contemporary research on interaction patterns within parental families of substance addicts and their coping behavior. Our empirical study discovered that coping strategies used by addict subjects and interaction patterns within their parental families differ from those of the addiction-free subjects. Interrelations between the impressions of the subjects about their relationship with parents in adolescence and the effectiveness of their coping strategies were analyzed; the copings used by the subjects who grew up in families with different structural models was compared. The obtained survey data was interpreted, conclusions and practical recommendations for families and assisting specialists were presented. Finally, the consistency of the findings with the hypothesis stated at the beginning of the study was considered and the results of the research were summarized.
