Peculiarities of the Swedish Management Model on the Russian Market

This research reveals the major peculiarities of the Swedish management model on the Russian market and provides the solutions to the challenges outlined. It accumulates variable theoretical findings regarding the national management model - the basic approaches chosen are G. Hofstede’s and N.J. Adler’s models. The quantitative research of Business Sweden conducted in 2018 allows to determine the major negative market factors and to understand the Russian market from the perspective of 98 Swedish companies operating in Russia. The findings from the research are then challenged during the interviews with the 3 Swedish management experts, 9 IKEA employees and the secondary analysis of the 9 Swedish top-managers perspective. The IKEA case study gives a deeper understanding of the business process of the brightest Swedish company’s representative and provides the examples of the IKEA adaptations to other world markets. Finally, based on the data collected, the major peculiarities of the Swedish management model and its difference from the Russian model are outlined. Moreover, the key negative market factors are revealed, which leads to the topical problems Swedish companies encounter in Russia. As a result, the solutions to solve the identified problems are presented in order to increase the Swedish companies’ performance on the Russian market based on the major peculiarities of the Swedish management model on the Russian market revealed.
