Contemporary Poet as Multimedia Figure: Representation of a Poet in a Context of Festival Culture of the 2000s

Student: Salenkov Aleksandr

Supervisor: Ilya Kukulin

Faculty: Faculty of Humanities

Educational Programme: Visual Culture (Master)

Year of Graduation: 2018

In the context of the festivals of the 2000s, the master's thesis investigates the public author's reading of poets who problematize at the level of the act of speech, voice, gesture and other tools of mediatized literary technique the possibility of subjectivity and performative ways of identity construction. In the conditions of the festival, the poet's representation can’t be identified only with the personified subjectivity, it is impossible to focus on the author's self-representation or to illuminate it through a survey and the audience's opinion. Being accentuated within the continuing event, the poet's representation is fixed by pragmatic, environmental and media components in the form of temporal configurations of combining literary techniques, in which the author's speaking takes on the function of restoring the border of subjectivity and means, first of all, the voice returns the individual space of experiencing the poetics of the text or becomes a real-time response to changes in the environment.
