Risk Management Features of a Sports Megaprojects in Case of FIFA World Cup

This article examines the most dangerous risks related to the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia. In the course of the study, the features of risk management in megaprojects were analyzed on the basis of scientific literature analysis. A review of the scope of the FIFA World Cup as a sports megaproject was carried out by the FIFA's annual reports and relevant publications analysis. An expert assessment of the risks likelihood and impact on the key megaproject parameters by interviewing experienced representatives of risk management and project management areas was carried out. On the basis of the survey, a qualitative risk analysis was performed, a risk matrix and risk heat maps for the megaproject parameters were developed, and strategies for responding to risks were proposed with expert recommendations for their implementation at the football competition in Russia.
