The Impact of Transport Accessibility on Entrepreneurial Activity in Cities and Agglomerations
Applied Economics
(Master’s programme)
2018
In this paper, we proposed an approach to assessing the impact of transport accessibility on the economic activity of companies on the example of the Nizhny Novgorod agglomeration. The emphasis was placed on the availability of public transport in the first place. Data were collected for firms whose activities were located in the agglomeration. After a preliminary visual and statistical analysis, a model was proposed that describes the relationship between the competitiveness of firms, internal characteristics of firms and agglomeration characteristics, including the availability of public transport. Among the results, it was found that the impact of transport accessibility is different for different economic activities. Assumptions were also made about scaling the model for all Russian agglomerations.
