Computer Techologies in Literary Translation (on the Material of the Novel "A History of the World in 10 1/2 Chapters" and Stories of the Collection "The Lemon Table" by J.Barnes)

In the graduation thesis of the bachelor, computer tools are considered, whose application can optimize the translation of literary texts. Were explored the possibilities and prospects of using these tools separately and in complex for literary translation. Theoretical part of the study presents a general description of the computer instruments that can be successfully used for literary translation. In this part hypotheses were made on the translation of what elements of literary text each instrument can be used with better results. The practical part of the research consists of using the observed computer tools for the translation of the story "A Brief History of the Hairdressing" from the collection of stories "Lemon Table", as well as the original and the translation of the novel "The History of the World in 10 ½ Chapters" by Julian Barnes and assessment of the usability of these tools. Hypotheses from the first part of the research were confirmed and the following conclusions were drawn: the complex application of computer tools in the literary translation makes it possible to find quickly the existing equivalents in several sources at once, or to obtain similar usage contexts for the vocabulary without equivalents that may help to find the closest translation.
