Methodological Approaches for Development of the Key Indicators to Measuring the Performance of the Main Processes in Medical Organizations

In order to achieve a high level of quality and safety of medical care there is a need for systematic measurement of healthcare organization performance based on the self-assessment method. This fact has been successfully confirmed by practical implementation of the Russian Federation Government Quality Award Model. The indicators for measuring the effectiveness and efficiency of the main processes have been developed and the self-assessment of domestic healthcare organization’s performance has been conducted on their basis, whereas previously this organisation traditionally worked on "routine" evaluation methods. The results of implementation of new performance indicators for a domestic healthcare organization enabled the author to evaluate the efficiency of the Model and have also proved the fact that the approach to the development of the key indicators of effectiveness and efficiency impacts the quality and safety of medical care directly. In order to improve the development of performance indicators for healthcare organizations, the author suggests integrating the Model of Russian Federation Government Quality Award into the healthcare system
