Impact of Bank Sector Consolidation on Russian Stock Market

This paper analyses the impact of consolidation of the banking sector on the Russian stock market. Factors determining the levels of returns and volatility of securities of companies listed on the Moscow Stock Exchange are considered. The characteristics of the consolidation measures of the sector and determinants of changes in the Russian stock indices are given. Based on quantitative and qualitative analysis, the volatility of the stock market in 2012-2018 has been reduced. The results obtained are tested for robustness in different models and using various consolidation measures.
