The study contributes to the academic research dedicated to peer-to-peer (P2P) lending – a new form of lending which implies that individual borrowers and lenders are matched online on specialized platforms. The aim of the paper is to investigate which factors related to economic conditions determine dynamics of credit spreads in this market. First part of the work explains how peer-to-peer lending platforms operate and describes motivation behind borrowers’ and lenders’ decision to participate in P2P lending. The second part provides empirical evidence that there exists strong relationship between conditions in government bond market and banking and credit spreads on peer-to-peer loans of different types.
