In this paper, I reviewed all aspects of the work of platform companies, studied the principles, tools, rules that underlie their activities. Based on the data obtained, I conducted analysis, and singled out criteria that were included in the equation-tool which describes the probability of success of the digital transformation of the company. In order to obtain such data, I have studied several dozen books and articles, information from which, in a revised and generalized form, is presented in the work, reinforced with examples from real life. The own analysis was carried out, including choice of criteria, and estimation of their impact on the work of the company transforming its business. The conducted research can be used for a detailed study of the work of platforms by people who had not met them before. At the same time, the available information can also partly serve as an application directory if it is necessary to develop an already existing company. At the same time, the resulting equation can be a useful tool for calculation of the chance of success, and for understanding what other aspect are needed to be improved in order to reach the goal.
