The paper “Conditions, restrictions, and risks in the implementation of level education for the schoolchildren of grades 5–8 in accordance with the Federal Educational Standards in the mainstream school environment” discusses the possibilities, risks, and restrictions of using pedagogical differentiation and level education in the mainstream school environment. The author analyzes and systematizes the respective sources retrospectively, dwelling upon foreign and domestic literature. The analysis provides a clear idea of the genesis of the phenomenon, as well as the pedagogical and scientific substantiation; however, there is not enough literature dedicated to the practical aspects of the use of differentiation and level education in the modern school practice. Considering that this pedagogical technology can be considered as a tool aimed to improve the schoolchildren's educational achievements, the author in the case study section attempts to identify and classify on a trial basis the opportunities, restrictions, and risks in the implementation of level education in the mainstream school environment. The paper describes in detail the course of research and experimental work performed in 2017-2018 at ten Sochi educational institutions, represented by various schools clusters. The studies have allowed the author to formulate the conditions, risks, and restrictions which have to be considered with regard to level education. A direct dependence of the schoolchildren's performance on the qualification level of the school teachers and administrative teams as well as the financial and technical conditions has been revealed. The paper describes time-tested organizational and management mechanisms and tools that allow to prepare the teaching staff (its part) for successful implementation of the level education, to minimize the risks and restrictions that intrinsically exist in the educational institutions.
