The Problem of National Identity in a Conservative Discourse in Modern Britain (on the Example of Brexit)

This study addresses the issue of national identity and its components in a conservative discourse in the context of a significant political event - Brexit. In this paper the cultural heritage and the cultural policy of Great Britain will be considered as the basis of national identity.

In the course of the work, we need to identify how the problem of national identity develops in a conservative discourse in the conditions of Bexit, whether there is a relationship between the problem of national identity of Great Britain and the exit of Great Britain from the European Union.

The methodology of the study was based on the method of Leopold von Ranke - internal criticism of the source. By using this method, we can fully analyze all sources and database, determine which ideas formed the basis of the problem of national identity in Brexit and which groups and spheres of society are affected by those problems.

The study revealed that the problem of national identity in the context of such a significant political event as the Brexit, was developed not only in conservative discourse, but also among another political parties, groups of interests such as: Leavers and Remainers, and independent establishment of Great Britain.
