The purpose of this work is to identify the features of the disclosure of the theme of memory in modern literature on the example of E. Vodolazkin's novels “Aviator” and M. Shishkin “The Writer”. The work covers the following topics: 1. Features of the disclosure of the theme of memory in the novels (the triad "memory-being - the word"). 2. Features of the form of novels (diary, letter) and their role in solving the author's problem. 3. The levels of the art world, working on the disclosure of the topic. The role of the historical context in the artistic world of the novel. The consistent work on the themes stated above helped to determine the peculiarities of the disclosure of the theme of memory in the analyzed works: important - on a cosmic scale - are the memories of an individual person, and phenomena of a personal order and historical ones are of equal importance. Memory and transfer of experience and thoughts to another person is the path to immortality. The heroes of both novels retain themselves in the word. There is a sacralization of this concept. It is no coincidence that in the novels Christian motifs are so strong that help to transfer everyday, everyday scenes into the context of general philosophical, abstract ones. Man embodies the model of the world and at the same time is part of it.
