The task of the subject “literature” at school is not only to help the child enjoy the book, but also to teach to perceive the artistic text as a whole, as a work of art and at the same time offer the opportunity of a “dialogue” with the author. Narrative analysis plays a special role in this process. In this research work, it is shown how, using analysis of the narration, one can teach a student to “hear” the voice of author, to understand a work of art as a sum of components determined by the author's will. Additionally, great attention is paid to the method of “slow” reading. The author shows that “slow” reading is the most successful tool for identifying features of the narrative structure and narrative points of view. This task is solved based on the material of the novel “The Envy” by Y. K. Olesha and the story by M.M. Zoshchenko "Monter". The practical significance of the work lies in the fact that its observations and conclusions may be used in schoolwork in literature classes for studying any epic texts. The relevance of the work lies in the fact that the problem of text analysis at the narrative level really exists at school.
