The novel The Elixirs of the Devil (Die Elixiere des Teufels) and the series of short stories The Serapion Brethren (Die Serapionsbrüder) by Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann are usually analyzed in terms of either the doppelgänger motif or the space of the structure. However, there are few research works trying to connect these two textual mining techniques with each other. This study attempts to develop the mentioned conceptions and combine them in the whole notion of the twin-space. It will be focused on the perception of the twin-spaces and their role in Hoffmann’s texts. The investigation of the following newly elaborated notion will enable to reveal the underlying purpose of its usage, as well as to distinguish the profound importance of this concept based on the connection between the doppelgänger and the locations in Hoffmann’s texts. Hence, the significance of the twin-space in the author’s works and in other literary works will be established.
