The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationships between population health status and its determinants. Public health is mediated through life expectancy at birth. The analysis was carried out on the data of Russian regions. Data was taken from the Russian Federal State Statistics Service for the period 2000-2016. The panel data models were employed in order to estimate the relationship between life expectancy at birth and social, economic, medical support, lifestyle factors and health care expenditures. The results show a significant relation between health outcomes and socio-economic factors and lifestyle factors. The role of public health care expenditures turned out not to be significant.
