The reform of the pension system in Russia in 2018 for a long time remained a widely discussed socio-economic event, entailing a wave of protests in the country. At the same time, due to the absence of a referendum and several public hearings on the issue of raising the retirement age, the media became the main platform for discussion. This paper is devoted to a comparative analysis of the discussion about the pension reform on television and in Internet publications. The study presents the results of the analysis of articles of Internet resources (Meduza and Rbc.ru) and transcripts of federal TV channels (Channel Russia and First Channel) on the issue of pension reform for 6 months, from the moment the bill was introduced until it was signed. As a result, with the help of content analysis, expert interviews and regression analysis, we identified the key participants of the discussion and the main strategies for deproblematisation of the pension reform. In addition, we found how the process of legitimisation of a new social contract took place through the media, and what similarities and inconsistencies exist between various types of media in covering the socio-economic theme, as well as made assumptions about the reasons for the existing analogies and discrepancies.
