Educational Programme: Sociology (Bachelor)

Year of Graduation: 2019

The goal of the research is to examine approaches to the formal rules in the work of aircraft maintenance, usage of these rules, and organization of the work routine. Due to the lack of a theory that could describe the relationship to the rules arising in the practice of aircraft, an attempt was made to apply the ethnomethodological concept of daily activities for the analysis of professional activities in aircraft maintenance. Based on the analysis of 11 in-depth interviews, three contents of working with formal rules are described: training, materiality and limited time. The interaction between aircraft technicians at work and limits in the field of communication of formal rules was considered from an everyday perspective. The constant formalization of actions and the distribution of all work in the maintenance of aircraft on successive steps assist to overcome the negative emotional involvement and routine unpredictability of the civil aviation system.
