The formation of a modern legal state and the innovations in its’ social and political spheres require changes in the principles, structure, management and functioning of the pension system in the Russian Federation. In this research work a wide range of relevant issues is discussed, including development of the Russian pension system in accordance with national and global trends; changes occurred due to pension reforms; implementation of the Russian Pension System Development Strategy. In the research the author analyzes the problems and downsides of existing Russian pension legislation, also she defines the prospects of the modern pension model and gives recommendations about improvements of mechanism of pension system functioning.
