Historical and Cultural Analysis of the Student Newspaper "Alma Mater" (Tartu)

Student: Grishchenko Kristina

Supervisor: Oleg Lekmanov

Faculty: Faculty of Humanities

Educational Programme: Philology (Bachelor)

Final Grade: 7

Year of Graduation: 2019

The paper Alma Mater was at one time the most democratic and free platform for the expression of scholarly thought. It was being published from 1990 to 1992, during a clear decrease in censorship, which is why the analysis of this publication is of particular interest. Moreover, many of the authors published in it were already then world-famous philologists and writers (for example, Gasparov and Lotman). It is surprising that this magazine has not been reviewed and studied in detail before, so my goal is to study in detail the historical and cultural context of this publication.
