"The Insulted and Humiliated" as Dickens's Type of Novel

This paper studies causes and effects of Dickens’ patterns in works of Dostoevsky, after his returning from the exile in 1849-1859. It also studies influence of Dickens’ reception in 1850-1860 on Dostoevsky’s reputation in the first half of 1860. The subject of this paper is novel “The Insulted and the Injured” (1861) and the influence of Dickens’ works. In addition this paper includes analysis of Dickens’ works and its translations which might affect Dostoevsky’s works. Despite the great number of studies in this field that studies later works of Dostoevsky, this paper focuses on one of the earliest and less-understood novels - “The Insulted and the Injured”. The paper fils that gap and studies this appeal to Dickens as an attempt to fix Dostoevsky’s reputation in the society.
