The current study is devoted to the analysis of single-word lexical units that appear to be the part of semantic fields 'same' and 'different' in Russian and French, it is aimed to identify features of functioning of these units and to find distinctions and similarities among them in Russian and French. This study was conducted using the analysis of Russian and French corpora, as well as working with word sketches in SketchEngine. A separate part of the study is also devoted to mistakes, that French-speaking students studying Russian might make due to differences in usage of these lexical units in Russian and French. The study may be interesting to a wide range of researchers interested in lexical typology and the study of semantic fields. The results of the study can be used by teachers of Russian and French as foreign languages, as well as by lexicographers compiling bilingual dictionaries.
