The Professionalization of University Teachers in the Condition of Digitalization of Educational Process: the Meanings and Practices

This final qualifying paper is devoted to the study of the professionalization of teachers of higher education in the conditions of the digitalization of the educational process.

The paper reviewed the main approaches to the sociology of occupations, defined the concepts of “professional activity” and “professionalization”, revealed differences in the definition of professionalization. It has been determined that the concept of “professionalization” has two meanings: professionalization as a process of institutionalization and professionalization as a continuous process of the formation of the personality of a specialist in a profession.

The main aspects of the digitalization of the educational process in higher education are identified. Digitalization of education in the framework of this study is understood as the process of translating the content of education in all its forms, namely in graphic, textual and sound, into a digital format that is understood by modern computers. The digitalization of education in Europe was reviewed in detail by the example of such countries as Estonia and Germany. Modern online education is developing in two directions: mass open online courses and online training programs offer traditional (offline) universities, as a new level of distance education, the process of gamification is gaining momentum as the third direction, i.e. study of traditional disciplines using computer games. Digitalization of the educational process in Russia is aimed at introducing the new educational environment MOODLE into educational institutions, which is used in Europe, in our country this educational resource is called LMS (Learning Management System), translated into Russian as a learning management system. Distant learning acquires a special popularity and prevalence.

The second chapter presents the results of empirical analysis. a comparative analysis was conducted: the process of professionalization of higher school teachers who graduated in the 20th century, and teachers who graduated in the 21st century, in the context of the increased digitalization of the educational process in recent decades. Based on the results obtained, two sociological portraits were compiled: a teacher of the younger generation (who graduated in the 21st century) and an older generation (who graduated in the 80-90s of the 20th century)
