HIV testing is described as the “gateway” to HIV and AIDS response, thus prevention, treatment as well as care and support services and acknowledged as one of the essential strategies in the fight to achieve the end of this global health issue by 2030 as targeted by the UNAIDS. However, the uptake of this service is low, especially among key population such as female sex workers. This study generally explores HIV testing behavior among female sex workers in Sekondi-Takoradi (Ghana) whiles also looking at activities of civil society organizations in providing these services to them. A mixed-method approach of survey and in-depth interviews was used, which saw 75 female sex workers participate in the survey, as well as 10 female sex workers and 2 project coordinators from civil society organizations interviewed for the qualitative phase. The author uses logistic regressions and thematic analysis to identify factors associated with HIV testing among FSWs and strategies employed by CSOs in delivering testing services as well as some challenges faced.
