Student: Teslenko Nikita

Supervisor: Tatiana Barandova

Faculty: Saint-Petersburg School of Social Sciences

Educational Programme: Political Science (Bachelor)

Year of Graduation: 2019

This work is devoted to the study of role theory in international relations on the example of the analysis of the Olympic games. Compared to the basic, most widespread theories, a role-playing approach has become less popular in science. The author of this work considers the explanatory abilities of role theory to be underestimated, which is the basis of the study. Evaluation of the effectiveness of its use takes place by considering such a mega-event as the Olympic games, the importance of which, as is known, goes beyond the achievement of new sports records. Having studied the content of the role theory and the importance of the Olympics in international politics, the author proceeds to the analysis of the cases of the recently held Olympic games (Beijing-2008, Sochi - 2014, Rio De Janeiro - 2016 and Pyeongchang -2018), using the developed model of analysis to establish how the Olympic games are considered in the framework of the role approach in the theory of international relations from the standpoint of their instrumental application
