The study aims to obtain information and analysis of the perception of various educational formats by students of Moscow universities as their main goal. It was implemented using qualitative methodology using 15 personal semi-structured interviews with students. The informants were young people studying in the universities of the city of Moscow who had experience using online resources for training. As a result of the study, information was obtained on how students perceive educational formats such as online and offline learning, as well as how they subjectively evaluate their effectiveness. One of the assumptions of the study was that students rate online learning positively in terms of saving time and ease of access and negatively in terms of engagement and motivation. The work will first outline the main aspects of the relevance of this work, which consist in the dissemination of online learning formats [Kafidulina, 2018], and the basic concepts of work (such as e-learning / online learning and Massive Open Online courses). The review of the literature will cover micro and macro approaches to the consideration of the subject of education (Bourdieu’s sociology of education, Durkheim functionalism and interpretiveism), since these approaches allow you to look at online learning from the point of view of educational analysis of both a social institution and individual actors. In addition, the phenomenon of e-learning will be examined by such learning theories [Janelli, 2018], such as cognitivism, constructivism, behaviorism, connectivism [Siemens, 2005], the theory of digital media and the theory of active learning. These theories consider the various components of the educational process that contribute to more effective learning: they help us to consider the most effective educational process, which includes such features as interactivity, the presence of practical examples, etc. One part of the analysis of the literature will be the consideration of empirical research on the subject of online and offline educational formats, which will help to identify areas in need of study, formulate meaningful assumptions and draw up the tools of this study. Following the literature review, there follows a methodological block that reveals the main aspects of the practical implementation of this research. At the end, the results will be summed up and substantive conclusions will be made, which will reflect the main advantages and disadvantages of educational formats, the types of perception of online educational formats, as well as the possibilities of combining them.
