The paper examines the difference in hourly payments between men and women in Russia using observations of the Russia Longitudinal Monitoring Survey from 2017. The estimation was conducted based on three popular method in the field of gender wage gap: twofold and threefold decomposition methods of Blinder-Oaxaca estimation and Heckman two-step estimation equation for women. It was found out that the ratio of female to male monthly wage is close to 68% and the share of women to men hourly wage is close to 79%. The twofold and threefold methods estimated that only 2.5% and 7.6% of gender pay gap can be explained by the difference in characteristics, respectively. The remaining portions should be accounted for potential sources of gender discrimination in wage. The current study explores the fact that the gender discrimination situation in Russia can be much worse than it was assumed to be for the last seven years due to the change in the independent variable in calculations. Finally, the paper clarifies the possible shortcomings of the research and explains the needed steps for further work.
