This research analyzes the mechanisms of influence of large Korean conglomerates on the development process of territorial-administrative units of South Korea. As a theoretical framework of the study, we apply the concepts of the welfare state, the concept of corporate social responsibility, as well as we use approaches to determining the role of the state in this process. A special place in the theoretical framework of this work is taken by the concepts analyzing the forms of corruption and cronyism in South Korea. The practical part of the work is based on the study of social programs that are implemented by Korean conglomerates, government programs that are carried out in conjunction with chaebols, as well as statistics and reports on the activities of large firms. The results of our study showed that the influence of the conglomerate's activities on the development of the region should be analyzed in a comprehensive manner since each individually taken mechanism for influencing the development of the region does not cause significant changes.
