Perception of the Social Consequences of Sport Mega-events: Case of the FIFA World Cup 2018
Sociology
(Bachelor’s programme)
2019
This empirical research was aimed at identifying and comparing the perceptions of the social consequences of the World Cup 2018 between two cities that became participants of sport mega- event called the FIFA World Cup. As it turned out, sport mega-events really can in some way change both Russia and the cities of the tournament, as well as the lives of local residents, at least at the time of the sporting mega-events, and maybe for a long time, because Russia is always ready to become a country holding a large number of sports mega-events. The study drew attention to cities such as Moscow and Saransk. And at first glance they seem to be completely different and it is not a surprise, if you only look at the economic performance of these cities. Moscow is the capital, which always participates in sports mega-events, and Saransk is the small capital of the Republic of Mordovia, which is in no way inferior to Moscow in the development of the sports sector.

Within the framework of the study, 5 empirical problems were solved, and the study in the future can serve as a good basis for similar studies of the consequences of sports mega-events.
