"Consumer - Producer for Himself": Prosumption as a New Form of the Consumption
Sociology
(Bachelor’s programme)
2019
Our modern world is unstable and unpredictable. Constantly there is something new that replaces the usual, old. This applies to all spheres of human life. The economic behavior of an individual is highly influenced by external factors and various trends. Consumer behavior is also subject to change. With each stage of development of society there are new forms of consumption. One of these forms is prosumption. Prosumer is a modern active consumer, combining the qualities of both consumer and manufacturer. That is, in other words, the consumer becomes a producer of goods or services for himself. I want to devote my research to the study of this new phenomenon. I want to analyze what are the current practices of prosumption and what can motivate people to turn to these practices. I would like to turn to the in-depth interview method to collect data, for the more detailed analysis. The empirical database of my research consist of about 15 interviews with young girls aged from 20 to 26 years, who turn to the practices of prosumption in the beauty-sphere or fashion-industry
