Myocardial Infarction and Behavioral Patterns in Relation to Health: Economic Context

ABSTRACT of the final qualification work on the topic “Myocardial infarction and behavioral patterns in relation to health: economic context”. Authors: Datsyuk Darya and Morozova Ekaterina Key words: myocardial infarction, health shock, Russian labour market The main purpose of the work is the estimation of how myocardial infarction effects on labour supply among people of older age in Russia. To achieve the main goal following problems should be solved: 1) Describe socio-demographic portrait of Russian who had myocardial infarction 2) Analyze changing habits, lifestyle and working schedule of the respondents after MI 3) Map the results of qualitative and quantitative research methods to identify general trends The work consists of introduction, three chapters, conclusion, list of references and appendices. The first chapter is devoted to the examination of economic literature on stated subject. Then it provides a detailed proof of the relationship between health shocks and people’s labor market behaviour. The second chapter carries quantitative analysis of individual indicators from RLMS database. Conclusions based on statistical and econometric approaches we also made. The third chapter contains a qualitative analysis of the in-depth interviews with respondents who suffered myocardial infarction. The results were divided into 3 categories: economic changes, health and habits. Relevance of the research is poor knowledge of the behavioral dynamics of individuals after MI, while cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of deaths worldwide. The situation is particularly acute in Russia.
